Problem description
the feed dogs are permanently lowered and the lever to raise it is missing.
additionally the feed dogs are only going up and down straight with no back and forth motion. it is unable to feed the cloth.

the machine works now but a motor replacement is still the best
after opening and reoiling it is able to feed correctly again. however the speed is slow, the motor overheats and there is a smell. the motor might need replacement.
did partial dismantling of lower assembly, can see some of the feed dog mechanism but likely need to persist and fully disassemble to diagnose further.
tried to jam in a pair of tweezers to raise the feed dogs. the raised feed dogs are now able to touch the cloth but it still doesn't go back and forth so the cloth does not move at all.
suspect that the original janome feed dog lever both raises as well as provide the back and forth motion.
we need the original spare part or some mechanically compatible equivalent. however it's hard to find the part and difficult to figure out what the part is supposed to look like.
next steps: find the part somehow or dismantle feed dog mechanism fully to better understand how the part works.
