No power (battery)
The device does not show any signs of life when batteries are inserted and turned on.
Physically damaged
Physical damage prevents the device from functioning properly.
Battery housing has corroded due to leak. Lcd screen is blackened
the toy powers on but it has many 'dead pixels' that makes the display effectively unreadable
determined that the power button is broken too. when manually shorted pins 2&3, the toy powers on.s
battery compartment gives intermittent voltage. decided to hook up to stable 5v usb. tried powering on, no reaction from toy.
use dremel to sand off the rust, battery compartment now works correctly.
swapped for larger and larger drill bits until the plastic plugs can be pryed out completely with pliers to expose the screws.
dismantled and find that internal wires have corroded badly and snapped off with light touch.
lcd screen has zebra connector. used a permanent marker to indicate the orientation so it wont be reassembled wrongly later.
next step is to clean off the corrosion and/or rewire
unable to access screws due to plastic plugs.
decided to drill through with cordless drill and screws are now exposed, but require long and slender driver to unscrew.
