the original backing film that was peeled off actually consists of 2 layers, a polarised film plus a degraded silver backing. it's possible to just discard the silver backing and replace with white paper and reuse the original polarising film rather than ordering new one.

the replacement polarised film needs to be angled 45 degrees for it to work with the screen. (needed testing) also added a white backing behind the film for extra contrast.

advised participant to order non sticky film where possible so it's easier to slide in.

the lcd backing film needs replacement but the lcd screen has too many pins to be realistically de-soldered.

workaround is to peel off the backing film using penknife. replaced it with white paper but the contrast is still not good.

ordered polarized film as the proper replacement part.
