very intermittently can power on

it turns out that the filter cover wasn't snapped in fully. there are 2 limit switches at the bottom that detects if the cover is fully closed and the appliance refuses to power on otherwise.
tried plugging in for the first time and it powered on immediately and worked perfectly.
i then switched it off but cannot get it to switch on again.
