The device does not show any signs of life when batteries are inserted and turned on.

turn the knob on right speaker to on but cannot

too difficult to identify short in amp board. model is too old to find direct replacement. it's possible to use a 3rd party amp but need to find/guesstimate the specs of the sound drivers.
changed another known-good 12v power supply, confirm amp board is shorted (voltage drops to zero).
giving up on repair
power supply makes a periodic clicking noise, suspect main board has shorted.
turning power knob on (on the right speaker) does nothing
