The device does not show any signs of life when batteries are inserted and turned on.

the on/off button dimensions:
screw holes centre to centre 17mm
thickness 5mm
button height 11mm
the battery compartment has corroded badly. replaced it with new metal contacts and springs. had to resolder some wires for the negative terminal metal contact.
the on/off button is also not working, it is stuck on off. when shorted, the toy starts to work properly. need to replace the on/off button.
the broken button is probably the root cause. once the toy stopped working, it was neglected and the batteries leaked.
